Buck wasn't one to say "I told you so" but...he told you so, Eddie. Nobody was sleeping last night. But they had gotten through a good chunk of the Terminator series so was it time wasted? No. By now Buck was so sleep-deprived he had gone past tired and was "drunk guy on his second wind after throwing up in the bathroom".

"We should do the Aliens series next." This was like a sleepover! Only one of them was kind of delirious!

Eddie had definitely worked a 24 hour shift without sleep before. And that at least had physical activity yo keep him occupied. This, however...

"Aliens," he agreed dumbly. "Sure."

He was so worried about your mental state right now, Buck. But his own was a-okay. Yep.

"Should we order more pizza?" Buck hadn't trusted himself to use the oven when this tired so a loooooooot of pizza had been ordered this week.

"Are they going to be as tired as you?" Oh no, don't bring up things like this, Eddie.

"I mean, maybe?" Buck said. "But you don't need to be too awake to deliver pizza, right?"

And Eddie couldn't really be trusted to cook even if he was doing better than Buck.

"Yeah, that makes sense." It did not, you two. "I'm really glad Christopher didn't come along for this," Eddie said, rubbing his much too dry eyes.

"Dude, me too. I mean we're adults we can handle no sleep." Could they? Could they? "Christopher would be miserable."

"He's already having enough issues falling asleep," Eddie said with a sigh, dropping his head back onto the couch to stare up at the ceiling.

Had he mentioned that to Buck before? Maybe.

No, no that was new. "Since when?"

Eddie sighed heavily. "Recently. He's been having nightmares."

It was almost like the both of them had gone through a lot of trauma since moving to LA or something.

Buck set aside his phone to focus on Eddie. Pizza ordering can happen in a few minutes. "Did he say what about?"

Was it dinosaurs? Buck got that.

Dinosaurs would be the best case scenario. But also... what the hell, Buck?

"About me dying."

"Oh." Okay, well, yeah he knew exactly why Chris would be having those kind of nightmares. "At least he's talking about it?"

Because usually the Diaz genes had you keeping everything to yourself until you join a fight club.

Excuse you, he got over that with more repression and talking to a shrink for five whole seconds. It was fine.

"Yeah, but I can't just leave him with those fears. The job isn't exactly the safest."

What with the kidnappings and the sniper with a vendetta against firefighters being actual things that happened.

Buck couldn't argue with that. Eddie had been shot because of being a firefighter.

"So, what, you change jobs?" Buck asked, like that was the most ridiculous thing in the world. "You love being a firefighter."

Yes, he really did love it, but if it's what Christopher needed...

"I already talked to Bobby about taking a leave from the 118." Because he wouldn't be Eddie if he didn't make big, unilateral decisions.

"Are you serious?" Was this some sort of horrible sleep-deprived nightmare? "To do what?"

Buck, not everyone would be lost without being a firefighter. Unlike you.

Hey, Buck was just... Buck. And Eddie would also meltdown a little over this.

"They offered me an office job," Eddie said like he was really trying to make it sound okay, but definitely couldn't find the energy for it. "Maintaining the LAFD Twitter account. Updates on calls, you know you?"

Yes, picture Eddie using Twitter effectively.

"That sounds like the most boring job on the planet." And he napped regularly at his current job!

Well. Not this week.

"But it's safe."

Also, kept him too busy to think about all those feelings he kept bottled up.

"But you could also be involved in some unfortunate accident at the Dairy Queen," Buck said. "Nothing is a guarantee."

"I know that." But he made a rash decision and was sticking to it. Like an idiot. "I just don't want my kid to always be afraid that one of these days, his dad won't come back to him."

You know. Like Shannon did.

"And this... this I can control at least."

"And you're going to be happy, sitting at a desk all day?" Buck asked.

Look at least he got to shoot some water at raccoons every now and again!

Eddie's expression said 'definitely not' to that. "Maybe?"

Uh huh. Buck didn't believe that for a second. "Maybe you need to sleep on it."

Yeah, which was why Eddie was giving him suuuuch a look. You were just so lucky that he liked you too much to say it, Buck.
